The Basics
North Shore Counseling Center was founded in 1972 in Beverly, Massachusetts, a mid-sized city in Essex County. It offers outpatient treatment to adult men and women living in the North Shore area.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment begins with an initial assessment to determine a intensity and duration of care. Treatment works within the structure of individual and group therapy, which uses a variety of treatment techniques, such as CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), ego-psychology, social skills therapy, Rational Emotive Therapy (RET), interpersonal therapy, relapse prevention, education and sharing. Group are generally small and range from eight to 15 clients. Individual sessions are scheduled as needed. The facility does not offer detox at this time.
While treatment is not 12-step based, counselors highly recommend clients attend outside AA and NA meetings and find a sponsor.
North Shore offers dual diagnosis support by way of individual sessions with psychologists and other mental health counselors.
Staff consists of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners and LCSWs.
Extras
With client’s consent, North Shore offers family therapy with the client and their loved ones. These sessions aim to address family triggers that may have contributed to the client’s substance abuse and help create healthy communication practices within the family unit. North Shore also facilitates couples counseling.
