Treatment is 12-step based and includes a mixture of AA meetings, individual and group therapy, substance abuse education and vocational and education assistance. While medical and psychiatric care are not offered, referrals can be made if necessary.

Accommodations and Food

The residential program houses up to 42 clients at a time. During phase two of treatment, residents can transition into the halfway house, which holds up to 71 at a time. Bedrooms in both programs are shared between two to three people, each with a shared bathroom. The basic bedrooms include twin sized beds and dressers. The buildings also feature dining rooms, therapy rooms and common areas. Smoking is permitted during break times.

When it comes to recreation, the grounds offer volleyball, pool tables, a library/reading room and television. In addition, clients have access to the community library and free day passes for the local YMCA.

During both phases clients are provided with three meals per day. Options can include salads, pizza, sandwiches and meatloaf. Special dietary requests can usually be accommodated.

Treatment and Staff

As previously  mentioned, North Cottage offers comprehensive care, split into two phases. This includes phase one short-term residential and phase two transitional living. In addition, clients can also transition into a sober living facility if they wish once transitional living has been completed. While detox and outpatient are not offered, referrals can be made upon request.

The intensive program offers short term residential care. Typically clients are here for 60 days, and the program is for those who haven’t had any prior residential care. During this time, clients receive at least one hour of individual therapy per week as well as seven hours of group therapy, and an hour of group discussion per day. Clients also attend a 13-part series of educational seminars on a variety of topics including health, addiction and life skills. When it comes to the 12 steps there are two weekly meetings offered on-site, though clients can also go into town for local meetings. Those in the intensive program are not allowed to work, drive personal vehicles or have overnight passes.

The transitional living program usually lasts for 180 days, during which clients continue to participate in daily group sessions, weekly individual counseling and are required to attend a minimum of three 12-step meetings per week. Some of the perks of phase two include eligibility for personal driving, employment and overnight passes. Finally, clients may choose to transition into one of North Cottage’s two sober living homes in Norton or Attleboro.

The staff includes LADCs and social workers.
