Columbus OhioThe Basics

North Central Mental Health Services was incorporated in 1973 as a community-based mental health and substance abuse treatment agency. With several offices spanning across Franklin County in Ohio (in Aurora, Branson, Cassville, and Reeds Spring), clients have access to a variety of services and resources including a basic outpatient treatment program for substance abuse as well as sober living environments which utilize evidence-based treatment methods.

Treatment and Staff

The recovery services at NCMHS is highly individualized and does not conform to a strict structure or schedule. After an initial assessment and evaluation, the counselor recommends treatment options that best fit each client’s particular needs. Services for treatment include individual therapy, family counseling, treatment for co-occurring disorders and group therapy. Individual and family therapy sessions are scheduled independently, while group sessions are scheduled several times a week and are open to all clients. All treatment implements CBT and while the 12 steps are not integrated into the program, clients are strongly encouraged to get involved with meetings and have the option to be referred to a local group.

Topics covered in group sessions include coping skills, relapse prevention, skill building, self-esteem building and empowerment skills. Education services are also available for clients and their families and includes seminars on addiction education, parenting education and enrichment. The length of each program is dependent upon each individual client and there is not set duration.

The staff at NCMHS consists of psychologists, psychiatrists, LSWs, LPCs, RNs and CADCs.

Extras

In addition to outpatient services and programming, NCMHS also offers several residential services in the form of transitional and permanent homes for those seeking sober living environments or care for mental health disorders and disabilities. The Next Generation and Extramural Care Homes provide housing and a support staff for those who cannot live independently, while the Norwich House is a structured home for those with severe and persistent mental illnesses.

Aftercare treatment is offered for those who wish to extend their program and is planned out between client and counselor ahead of time.

In Summary

North Central Mental Health Services provides basic outpatient substance abuse treatment for those seeking a less structured recovery plan. With a credentialed staff and a range of group topics addressing specific recovery-related issues, this time-tested program has over 40 years of success to share with individuals seeking recovery.
