The Basics
For over 40 years, North Central Behavioral Health Systems (NCBHS) has been providing the residents of north central and west central Illinois with mental health and substance abuse treatment services. Its La Salle location, 100 miles southwest of Chicago, offers outpatient substance abuse treatment at standard and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) levels. Its additional six locations offer one-on-one counseling and substance abuse treatment groups as needs arise in their communities. NCBHS serves over 7,000 Illinois residents each year.
Treatment and Staff
Clients in the standard outpatient program meet for group therapy once or twice a week and have individual therapy as-needed. Most clients complete the standard outpatient treatment plan in eight to 10 weeks. Clients placed in the IOP have at least nine hours of treatment each week, including group therapy three times a week and individual therapy at least once a week. Most clients complete the IOP treatment plan in eight weeks. Groups for adolescents are also available.
Groups are led by Master’s-level therapists and addiction counselors, including LCSWs and CADCs. The treatment team uses evidence-based treatment such as CBT and strongly encourages clients to attend 12-step or other peer support meetings while they’re in treatment. Clients with co-occurring disorders can receive therapy and medication management from the behavioral health clinicians in NCBHS’s mental health departments.
Extras
NCBHS has a robust program offering one-on-one online therapy. Its website hosts an archive of webinars from its treatment team on a multitude of topics, including smoking cessation, teen drinking and assertive communication and the Wellness Recovery Action Plan modules, which help listeners use their personal assets to achieve their goals.
