Madison WisconsinNorth Bay Lodge Review

North Bay Lodge offers residential treatment for men and women struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. As an affiliate of Hope Haven—one of the largest non-profits in Madison—North Bay Lodge provides comprehensive treatment for residents throughout south-central Wisconsin.

Accommodations and Food

North Bay Lodge is a single story, A-framed structure with an enclosed sun porch situated in a quiet residential Madison neighborhood on the shore of Lake Mendota. The facility accommodates up to 25 individuals with separate gender-specific wings for men and women. There are single- and double-occupancy rooms on each unit with shared YMCA style bathrooms. Single occupancy rooms are furnished with double beds, dressers and nightstands while double occupancy rooms have twin beds.

There is a large community living area with sofas, a pool table, plasma TV and a work station with five desk-top computers. In addition, there is a separate library/lounge featuring a collection of books with comfortable sofas and a flat-screen cable TV. There is also an exercise room with stationary bikes and free-weights.

Clients eat in a sunny dining hall and all meals are prepared by a professional chef. Special dietary requests may be accommodated. The surrounding property is lush with plenty of yard space for outdoor picnics and recreation.

Treatment and Staff

North Bay Lodge residential treatment is 30 days in duration. Smoking is permitted outside in designated areas only. While cell phones are not permitted, clients may use the counseling office phone at staff discretion. Residents have weekly chores and are responsible for cleaning their rooms and keeping all areas tidy.

Each day begins with a 7 am wake-up followed by breakfast. Residents attend group and individual therapy sessions throughout the day with a break for lunch at 1 pm. Groups utilize CBT and include peer driven discussion, gender specific groups, a co-occurring disorder group, family dynamics, relapse prevention and goal-setting. Alternative treatment methods are also incorporated for a holistic healing experience like art therapy, 12-step yoga. Free time is from 3 to 5 pm and dinner at 6 pm.

Outside support groups such as AA/NA and Smart Recovery bring meetings to the facility Monday through Thursday evenings at 7:30 pm with a 12-step yoga class on Friday evenings. Sundays are reserved for free time, visiting and outdoor recreation. Family therapy is also offered on Sundays by appointment only and while not mandatory, strongly encouraged. Clients are present for these sessions which take place from 3 to 4:30 pm.

The treatment team consists of CADCs, psychologists, case-managers, nursing staff and treatment technicians. Client-to-staff ratio is one-to-five.

Extras

Transitional care  is available for those who complete the residential track. Eligible clients remain at the Lodge in the same accommodations with the only change being a less intensive program. Case managers work to assist in job search and permanent housing upon completion.

In Summary

North Bay Lodge offers comprehensive and affordable residential substance abuse treatment with comfortable accommodations and bucolic surroundings. Clients are given the opportunity to step down into a less intensive transitional living program while remaining on-site, allowing them to maintain support and community ideal for long-term recovery.
