The Basics
Nirvana Drug and Alcohol Treatment Institute opened in 1997 in Modesto California. In addition to gender-specific residential treatment, Nirvana offers a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that utilize evidence-based treatment modalities. The individualized programs are highly structured and and available to adult men and women.
Treatment and Staff
This facility offers residential treatment and detox referrals, and a majority of clients who participate in the outpatient programs are stepping down from a more intensive program. Regardless, care at Nirvana begins with an in-depth assessment to determine the level of care each client needs. The outpatient program’s more intensive level is the PHP, which requires group therapy five days a week, usually from the 9:30 in the morning until about 1:30 in the afternoon. The next phase is the IOP, which is three times a week, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, for three hours per day. The standard outpatient track, the least intensive level, meets either Mondays or Fridays and offers both day and evening treatment hours. This track allows more flexibility so clients have the ability to work around their personal schedules.
The programs are rooted in the 12-step philosophy and require regular off-site AA or NA meetings, which also include the client securing a sponsor. Another big part of their treatment is the psychoeducational aspect, with classes offered twice a week that address the disease of addiction and relapse prevention, coping skills, identifying triggers and anger management. Therapeutic methods include CBT, DBT, EMDR, and Behavior Modification. There are also regular individual therapy sessions weekly that are scheduled around the client.
Staff at Nirvana is comprised of counselors and therapists who are LADCs and CACs.
Extras
Aftercare planning is incorporated into each client’s treatment plans and can include a sober living referral. Family therapy is available that offers psychoeducation and resources to outside support groups like Al-Anon.
