Lafayette Hill PennsylvaniaThe Basics

The NHS mental health network has been a provider of care and services for individuals with special needs since 1969. Born from an initiative started by John F. Kennedy’s New Frontier and the Community Health Act of 1963, NHS found their beginnings in Pennsylvania and has since mushroomed into over 700 facilities across eight states on the east coast. All facilities have focused their services and funding towards the mentally disabled on an outpatient basis. NHS’s Parkside Recovery Programs include substance abuse treatment, trauma-based services and dual diagnosis support.

Treatment and Staff

NHS’s Parkside Recovery Programs provide individuals and their families with solutions to substance abuse issues. All therapies are provided through the scope of evidence-based practices with a specialized program for individuals with co-occurring disorders.

Before clients enroll in treatment they are bio-psycho-socially assessed to determine the acuity of their chemical dependence. Additionally, they are screened for common overlapping mental health challenges, HIV and Hepatitis B and C. Clients who do not require detox are placed in either the standard outpatient track or the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). In each of these programs, additional services for the treatment of anger issues, depression, anxiety, and attention deficit disorders are available.

Clients requiring detox are enrolled in an outpatient program with the option for Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). These clients work with a Psychiatrist and may receive a prescription for Suboxone for relief of acute withdrawal symptoms. Clients may remain with the MAT track for as long as needed and recommended by the case manager.

When clients are ready to progress in their recovery, they are enrolled in either the standard outpatient or IOP track. Each of these tracks provide an individualized treatment experience. The basic outpatient treatment program provides a comprehensive list of treatment goals and options for clients participation. Clients attend weekly group and individual therapy sessions to work towards recovery goals. Specialty groups are available that include women’s specific trauma groups (TREM), parenting skills, life skills, relapse prevention, culturally-relevant groups and 12-step groups. The IOP track meets three times per week and has three-hour group sessions. Psycho-education groups are included to ensure clients are knowledgeable on the realities of addiction.

Family therapy sessions may be scheduled if the client requests. All therapy is facilitated by mental health professionals that specialize in co-occurring disorders. LADCs, LPCs and Psychiatrists are always on staff to assist clients and provide referrals.

Extras

NHS provides a wide range of mental health services. If a client shows signs of needing additional care including residential treatment or inpatient care, they must display severe mental health disabilities. Community-based support is also available including recovery coaching, a program that provides crisis intervention services and liaises with community 12-step meetings upon completion of primary care.

In Summary

With a long history of proven care, NHS has provided substance abuse recovery and mental health services from over 700 facilities in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, New York, Maryland, Delaware, Louisiana and Michigan since 1969. NHS’s Parkside Recovery provides outpatient, IOP and MAT services for individuals and their families. All services focus on providing individualized treatment experiences as well as dual diagnosis support.
