Nextep Outpatient Review
Nextep is a treatment facility that offers comprehensive outpatient services at four locations in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Southwest, and Naples, Florida. Joint Commission-accredited, Nextep specializes in the care of adults struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders as well as co-occurring mental health conditions. The facility offers a holistic, “whole client” approach to care that seeks to heal the underlying root causes of conditions in addition to treating symptoms. The 12-step recovery model is a cornerstone of the curriculum. Nextep offers outpatient detox, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) in addition to Nextep sober living accommodations.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning treatment, clients undergo an extensive evaluation that includes a physical and psychological health screening as well as a complete history of substance use. From there, the team designs the best possible individualized care strategy customized to address the specific needs, goals and circumstances of the person.
When necessary, individuals enter detox. Nextep provides a comprehensive outpatient detox program that includes stabilization, medical supervision and medication to mitigate painful withdrawal symptoms like nausea and hallucinations. The facility specializes in Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) through the use of Suboxone, Vivitrol and Naltrexone. The length of detox varies from person to person. The process can last between several days to a few weeks. Upon completion, clients enter the PHP or IOP.
Nextep’s PHP and IOP are ideal for individuals either transitioning out of a residential program back into regular life, or for clients that require consistent therapy but cannot commit to inpatient care. The PHP runs between 1 and 9 pm daily. The IOP offers flexible scheduling that enables clients to receive therapy without taking time away from work or school obligations. The program runs on weekdays between 9 am and 12 pm. Outpatient programming typically involves two hours of therapy three times a week.
Participants can expect a multifaceted model of care that integrates evidence-based therapies, holistic practices, assessments, psychoeducation, 12-step and experiential therapy. Clients engage in individual and group therapy sessions rooted in CBT and EMDR to treat trauma. Individuals also meet regularly with a psychiatrist. Psychoeducation courses focus on relevant topics such as addiction, relapse prevention and coping strategies. Individuals also participate in a 12-step immersion.
The Nextep team is made up of addiction specialists, mental health counselors, nurses, physicians and psychiatrists. Medication management is available.
Extras
Nextep provides equine therapy to promote stress tolerance, empathy and awareness. There is also a range of experiential activities including boating, kayaking, art therapy and a ropes course.
