Newport County Community Mental Health Center (NCCMHC) is located in the coastal town of Middletown, Rhode Island and provides a variety of behavioral health and substance abuse outpatient programs. It facilitates crisis intervention, individual and group therapy, co-occurring disorders treatment and medication management services for teens and adults. Treatments are evidence-based, utilizing CBT methods and relapse prevention techniques.

Treatment and Staff

Potential clients undergo an assessment with an intake coordinator who then places them into the proper program. Outpatient treatment includes a variety of group sessions and psychoeducation, covering topics like grief and loss, coping skills and relapse prevention. There are both co-ed and gender-specific groups and they typically last eight weeks, with the exception of the quitting tobacco and nicotine group, which is approximately 12 weeks. Programs also tackle problem-solving, stress management and Stages of Change. Group session times vary but are usually offered in the morning to the late afternoon and last for about an hour and a half.

Therapeutic approaches include DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and trauma-informed care.  The group numbers are kept low—around 10 clients in each—and conducted in an environment that fosters recovery and peer support. There are also regularly scheduled individual sessions available. As previously mentioned, clients with a dual diagnosis can receive medication management if needed. Twelve-step principles are not integrated into treatment but clients are free to seek additional support through AA/NA meetings.

This facility offers a large staff of mental health professionals who have many years experience working with clients who struggle with addiction. Credentials employed here include LCSW, LMHC, RN and an MFT.

Extras

In addition to personalized aftercare services, couples and family counseling is also available. Referral services for detox, residential or Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is offered through one of NCCMHC’s partners.

In Summary

From emergency services to aftercare groups, Newport County Community Mental Health Center provides a solid foundation of treatment. Programs are therapy-based and able to address specific issues many individuals experience due to addiction. The programs provide goal-oriented, strength-focused care and a steady support system.
