Located on New Zealand’s North Island in the major city of Auckland, New Zealand Eating Disorders Clinic (NZEDC) is a treatment facility that specializes in the care of adolescent and adult clients struggling with an array of eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia and compulsive eating as well as co-occurring mental health conditions. Treatment and Staff

Clients entering treatment begin with a 75 minute long comprehensive assessment to help the team determine the best possible individualized care solution tailored to the unique needs of the individual. In some cases, the client’s family and/or partner attend the assessment to provide their perspective and receive feedback on their role in therapy going forward.
The facility employs a multi-faceted approach to care that integrates holistic mindfulness techniques, psychiatric consultations, nutrition therapy, medical services as well as a number of evidence-based therapeutic methods including CBT, DBT, Adolescent Focused Therapy (AFT) and Maudsley Anorexia Treatment for Adults (MANTRA), as well as Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) to help clients make recovery progress by resolving indifference. In addition, NZEDC facilitates psychodynamic and interpersonal therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and family-based treatment that typically lasts a year. Clients engage in individual and group counseling that focuses on body image concerns and nutrition. For clients more comfortable at home, the team can do sessions through Skype and FaceTime.
The NZEDC team is made up of clinicians, physicians, clinical psychologists, a dietitian, occupational therapist, pediatrician and counselors. Medication management is available for clients with co-occurring disorders in need of dual diagnosis support. The facility often prescribes Fluoxetine and Topiramate.
