The Basics
Based out of New York City, New York, New York Pathways is an outpatient-based counseling facility that provides comprehensive, individualized treatment for clients struggling with sex addiction. Though specifics may vary, programming typically follows a model similar to that used for treating alcohol and drug addiction (including 12-step oriented care).
Treatment and Staff
All incoming clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help the staff develop their individualized care plans. Because the program focuses on sex addiction and is outpatient-based, on-site medical detox services for addiction are not available (though referrals can be made upon request).
Though the intensity of each program may differ, treatment plans implement a three-fold approach including individual and group therapy along with psychoeducational sessions. The modalities may vary but they include evidence-based treatment practices such as CBT and DBT. Support for a wide range of sexual dysfunctions are available including online issues such as pornography and sex chat room addiction. Although limited support for issues like depression and anxiety may be available, those in need of more severe issues may need to seek additional help elsewhere.
The staff at New York Pathways consists of LCSWs, LMFTs, CASACs and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
Additional counseling options include couples and marriage therapy whenever necessary. Counselors can also work with clients’ families to stage interventions as well. Those who complete a primary care plan can work with staff members to develop aftercare plans or get referrals to nearby self-help groups as necessary.
In Summary
In all, New York Pathways is a relatively focused outpatient program dedicated to helping men and women who are dealing with sexual addiction. Although treatment programs do not focus on addiction and co-occurring disorders, much of the curriculum relies on similar treatment methods including the 12 steps. All care plans are individualized and include evidence-based care practices. Although the costs of these sessions are on the higher side for individual therapy, New York Pathways remains a strong resource for clients in the area.
