New York Intensives is a Manhattan based outpatient treatment facility that provides intensive counseling services in a short amount of time. Geared toward clients who are dealing with sex and love addictions, treatment utilizes evidence-based practices. The intensives take place over three days where clients receive what equates to six months of counseling. New York Intensives also offers a la carte treatment options with group, individual and couples counseling sessions.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at New York Intensives is very pro couples and marriage, and through its programming it aims to help answer any questions that the clients and their partners may have, and begin to work on forming an alliance between them. Though the intensives are fairly short in days, the hours of treatment are intense and require a significant amount of commitment and participation on the client’s end.
The program is not for everyone, and the staff of New York Intensives is clear that though this study of treatment can be very effective for some, there are others who don’t benefit from it. Because of that, all clients who wish to seek treatment here have to fill out an application prior to beginning the program, and if they’re approved can start therapy.
Programming uses a 12-step approach for the sex addict clients along with trauma-informed therapies, like EMDR. Depending on the client’s needs, there are specialty programs, such as a partner focused track that helps those who are in a relationship with a sex addict work through some of their concerns surrounding their partner’s addiction. There are also healthy sex workshops and a couples track that integrates psychoeducation to help find an improved communication style and addresses anger management and fears. In addition, treatment is offered to those who have a co-occurring disorder.
Pamela Kohll is the founder of New York Intensives. She is a Master’s-level therapist and a certified sex addiction therapist. She uses a bio-psycho-social approach combined with spirituality, and uses her extensive training that was developed by Dr. Patrick and Stephanie Carnes. She also specializes in working with parents of sex addicts to help them heal from their trauma and guide them to finding solace in their decision to remain in their relationships.
Pamela is also a certified hope and freedom practitioner (CHFP), which works in conjunction with her sex addiction accreditation. She received her certification after attending several intensives under the supervision of Dr. Milton Magness, who is an expert in the field of sex and love addiction, and who also works with clients at News York Intensives.
Sex and love addiction affects thousands of couples every year, and the treatment at New York Intensives offers a unique style and approach to not only hearing the relationship between two people, but also finding ways to build back trust between them and ultimately strengthen their connection. Programming is individualized and clients are definitely in good hands once they begin their treatment, as the staff is highly trained and knowledgeable about the subject, and are able to offer sound advice and guidance during a very emotional time.
