Located about an hour southwest of New Orleans in the town of Houma, Louisiana, New Start Recovery is an outpatient treatment facility for addiction and co-occurring disorders. Treatment and Staff
New Start Recovery has an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and standard outpatient treatment for men and women who are struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders. The facility offers potential clients a free initial consultation; this comprehensive assessment helps the team to determine the most effective treatment strategy. So long as clients do not meet the required criteria for detox, the New Start IOP and outpatient programming are ideal for clients that either cannot commit to residential treatment or for those individuals transitioning back into regular life from an inpatient program.
With flexible evening scheduling, clients are able to receive treatment while working full-time or going to school. In IOP, individuals engage in therapy three times a week for eight weeks. With special tracks for clients that work in the offshore drilling industry, IOP schedules can be completely customized around the person’s schedule. Every session is rooted in the 12-step recovery method. In addition to therapy, there are same-sex process groups.
The boutique New Start Recovery team is comprised of addiction counselors licensed by the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals. There is no physician or psychiatrist on staff, so medication management is not available.
Extras
As previously mentioned, the facility offers a comprehensive aftercare program for clients that have completed the IOP. Groups meet weekly, and the service is offered for free.
New Start believes that family support is an integral component to the success of a long-term, sustainable recovery. To this end, it offers family education groups on Wednesday nights to discuss the disease of addiction and how best to support the loved one who is struggling. Families learn effective communication skills and how to set necessary boundaries.
