New Season is a Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program specifically for men and women who are over the age of 18 struggling with opioid addiction. New Season was founded in 1986 and has since expanded to offer over 70 locations in over 21 US states. New Season is a CARF accredited agency and, in addition to medication, clients also receive comprehensive addiction treatment that includes therapy in both a group and individual setting, harm reduction model, psychoeducation and nutritional counseling.
Treatment and Staff
Upon arrival at New Season, incoming clients have an intake meeting with a team of clinicians that includes an addiction counselor, a medical doctor and nurse. This initial assessment serves as a way for clients to hear their treatment options and the staff to learn about the specific needs of the individual. New Season is a sliding scale rehab so clients without health insurance can expect a cost of treatment that’s determined by their income.
During the first couple of weeks that the client in is their program and receiving their medication, it’s imperative that they meet with their therapist and nurse daily in order to make sure the medication is at the appropriate dose and they are handling it effectively. After the client has established that they are stabilized and on the right amount of medication, they enter into the maintenance phase. This entails clients receiving their medication every few days or once a week, while meeting with their therapist and doctors weekly.
There are options for the clients in terms of counseling treatment. There are individual and group sessions that are offered on a flexible schedule. During these sessions clients explore what the root cause of their addiction may be, discover what their triggers are and begin to develop a relapse prevention plan.
MAT options include Methadone, Suboxone and buprenorphine. These programs don’t have a set amount of time that clients should be expected to remain in treatment. Every person has a different physical response to the medications, and the maintenance phase can last for years.
In addition to the medication and drug counseling, clients are encouraged to seek out other forms of support while in New Season’s program. This can include helping clients get set up with a 12-step or SMART Recovery community. They are also able to assist with case managment issues, and help their clients obtain proper medical services as well.
There is a multidisciplinary staff of clinical and medical professionals at New Season. There are Master’s-level SACs, LPNs, RNs, LCSWs and support staff members.
