new-pathThe Basics

New Path was founded in 2006 in Lantana, Florida, a coastal town just south of West Palm Beach. It provides flexible, safe and 12-step-oriented sober living to recovered adult women in the area.

Accommodations and Amenities

New Path’s sober living program operates out of two opposing duplex apartment buildings. Each building has both double and triple units and there are a total of 20 beds between them. Each bedroom has a large walk-in closet, a small dresser and a twin bed. There is also a washer and dryer in every unit.

The apartments have WiFi throughout and residents are allowed to have cell phones and laptops. The two duplex buildings have a small courtyard between them where clients may socialize and smoke cigarettes.

Although New Path does not provide food for residents, the staff does provide transportation to and from the grocery store once a week. Residents also occasionally cook together on the weekends and holidays.

Rules and Regulations

New Path accepts clients at all stages of sobriety as long as they do not require any sort of immediate detox. Although the average stay is between six month to a year, residents are allowed to stay for as long as they choose. During the intake process, clients and counselors write down their goals and develop a plan of how to address them; whether it’s finding a job, securing housing, going back to school and/or regaining custody of their children. The house manager and staff members regularly check in with the residents during their stay to make sure they stay on track with their respective tasks.

Residents attend 12-step meetings six nights a week and are required to find a sponsor within the first two weeks of their stay. New Path also randomly drugs tests and breathalyzes residents.

Residents have a 9 pm curfew for the first 30 days. After the initial month, the curfew shifts to 11 pm on the weekends. Once in treatment for six months, clients have a curfew of 11 pm during the week and 1 am on the weekend. They are also allowed weekend and overnight passes at this time.

There is a weekly house meeting on Wednesday evenings where residents share their progress and discuss any residential issues.

The house manager lives in the apartment complex and is available 24/7 and the manager’s assistant helps with the upkeep of the residences during the day. New Path’s founder also regularly visits and meets with clients.

In Summary

New Path offers individualized and affordable sober living with a focus on setting and achieving goals. The significant amount of 12-step meetings offer clients the opportunity to develop a strong outside support system once they graduate to independent living. Also, the flexible length of stay is an asset for any client who wants to make sure they are solid in their recovery before living on their own again.
