The Basics
Founded in 2006, New Opportunities, Inc. is the result of a merger between New View Substance Abuse Treatment and Prevention Center, Inc. The new organization has locations in the Iowan cities of Audubon, Rockwell City, Carroll, Perry, Jefferson, Guthrie Center and Sac City, each offering a variety of community-oriented services. Among these is outpatient treatment for addiction and mental illness, welcoming court-ordered and self-referred clients.
Treatment and Staff
After an initial assessment and evaluation, clients are placed in either a standard outpatient or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), both with flexible scheduling. However, the IOP requires a minimum of nine hours of treatment each week, which includes individual and group therapy addressing early recovery, relapse prevention and family education. The standard outpatient option is less intensive, requiring one to eight hours of treatment weekly. There are several different outpatient programs available, including adolescent groups and continuing care.
Treatment is based on the Matrix Model and Prime for Life recovery philosophies and uses evidence-based practices. For some court-ordered clients, regular attendance of 12-step meetings may also be required. Additional support for clients with a dual diagnosis is also available.
Staff consists of LMSWs, CADCs and Master’s-level counselors.
Extras
Aftercare is available in the form of outpatient treatment at a stepped down rate.
Additional services include drug and alcohol screenings, DUI/DWI evaluations, intervention services and Juvenile Alcohol and Drug Education (JADE)—a six-hour program for adolescents who are referred from schools or juvenile court.
The organization also offers a donated food pantry program to feed those in need throughout the state, as well as a variety of basic health services for low-income clients—such as health education, physical examinations, lab testing and referrals for further care.
