Located in the bustling recovery community of West Palm Beach, Florida, New Objectives offers a full continuum of gender-specific substance abuse treatment for adults. Services include detox, residential and outpatient options.

Accommodations and Food

The two men’s homes are large residences surrounded by lush yards and palm trees. The women’s home is a stucco Mediterranean-style house with a pool in the backyard. Clients are paired with a roommate who is in the same phase of recovery and provided with transportation to the clinical facility for treatment every day.

The residences house a total of 14 men and eight women in double-occupancy rooms with two twin or full-sized beds. Homes are fully furnished with dressers and closets in each bedroom, shared kitchens with new appliances and large living rooms with big screen TVs. The facility provides all bedding, linens and cleaning supplies. Cable and high-speed Internet are also provided, as is access to free on-site washers and dryers.

While residents are expected shop and cook for themselves, they are encouraged to share these responsibilities with other clients and eat family-style. Both homes are near grocery stores, shopping and local AA/NA meetings.

Treatment and Staff

Before treatment begins, clients go through an initial assessment to help staff develop an individualized treatment plan. The exact length and intensity of the program is determined by individual need. Detox is offered in an affiliated off-site clinic and typically lasts three to five days. After that, most clients start at the inpatient level, with daily individual and group therapy for at least five hours, accompanied by life skills building and structured recreational activities. This phase of care typically lasts for 30 days, after which, residents usually step down to a less intensive regimen.

The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) consists of individual and group therapy for approximately 15 to 20 hours a week, with more free time provided to begin searching for an apartment and a job. After successful completion of this program, clients can transition to independent living and the standard outpatient level, which consists of less frequent sessions until recovery goals have been met.

Therapists use evidence-based practices, such as CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). All clients are also required to attend regular off-site 12-step meetings as part of their program. Family therapy may also be integrated, if applicable. For those requiring dual diagnosis care, psychological support and medication management are available.

The New Objectives team consists of a psychiatrist, several Master’s-level counselors and support staff.
