The Basics
New Life Interventions was established in 2012 by founder and former addict Frank Riedl in Woodstown, New Jersey. New Life Interventions offers a series of services in addition to interventions that include sober companionship, sober transport to and from a treatment facility, referral services, recovery coaching and case management.
The Background
New Life Interventions provides seasoned and experienced professionals to help both clients and their loved ones find the best treatment options for them and offer support and guidance throughout the experience. The staff at New Life includes certified addiction counselors and interventionists who are trained and credentialed. In some cases, the interventionists are also trained therapists who offer different treatment approaches that can include CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and more.
The Approach
There are a couple of different methods to approaching a loved one’s intervention. In some cases, New Life Interventions has one of their trained interventionists set up a number of group family sessions with the individual who is in need of an intervention to explore treatment options. However, most of the time it entails the family members first meeting with the interventionist to establish what the goals are and plan for arranging the client walking into the intervention without knowing that it’s going to happen. In either case the staff member always provides the group with every possible scenario and offers a number of alternatives should the intervention not go according to plan.
Prior to the actual event, loved ones get information and education about what the potential client may be experiencing due to their addiction and what they can expect. There are several treatment facilities that are presented to them prior to the intervention so they know what the options are. Once the event is scheduled and the addict is present there is time for some discussion with the interventionist, the client and their family members, and there is room for the loved ones to express their concern and why they made the decision to have the intervention.
Post-Intervention and Summary
If the client does indeed decide to get help they are escorted by a sober companion who helps them feel at ease and answers any questions they may have during the journey to their treatment facility. In addition there are sober coaches who help communicate and prepare the family members and also offer guidance to the client before, during and after their treatment program. The recovery coach is able to help the client find a supportive community and meetings that is convenient to where they live, help them connect with a sponsor and offers assistance when they return home and need that extra layer of support while they adapt to their new life in recovery. There are also case management services for the client and their family members. This can include getting the loved ones connected to Al-Anon and therapy and providing a bit of structure during the first year in recovery when the client is the most vulnerable.
