The Basics
With two locations in Jacksonville and Richlands, North Carolina and a third in Canton, Ohio, New Insights provides DWI services and outpatient substance abuse treatment. While the facility is primarily oriented towards DWI assessments and classes for those facing a court mandate, there are also self-administering clients who utilize New Insights counseling services to develop their own program of outpatient treatment.
Treatment and Staff
New Insights is designed to provide Level I, II and III DWI treatment services. Given that all three of its locations are outpatient in nature, there are no detox services offered, though clients in need of this procedure are referred to a nearby accommodating facility. Clients who attend New Insights specifically for DWI services can count on receiving an assessment, evaluation and a treatment program that meets the requirements of the court. There are also special programs for those facing under-age drinking charges and Adult Drug Education Traffic School classes. The facility also offers general substance abuse assessments, out-of-state reviews and clinical supervision.
Despite this focus on court-oriented concerns, clients who are self-referred are also able to tailor their treatment to reflect a standard outpatient program, with group and individual therapy held several times a week at New Insights’ headquarters. These sessions are led by a LADC and utilize Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques with special sessions devoted to anger management, relapse prevention and an introduction to 12-step concepts. Given the relative openness of the New Insights program for those not facing a court mandate, the typical length of program varies greatly and is up to the individual. There is no official family program offered though family involvement is encouraged, nor is there an aftercare program, though clients can extend their program indefinitely while slowly de-escalating the frequency of sessions over time.
Extras
Ohio residents who attend the New Insights Canton location can take advantage of the Ohio Driving Intervention Program, a 48- to 72-hour residential program that serves as an alternative to incarceration. Held at the McKinley Grand Hotel in Canton, clients are immersed in a series of educational classes and therapy that both meet court requirements and act as a potential bridge to a more comprehensive recovery program.
In Summary
As should be clear, the New Insights program is a small scale operation that primarily deals with DWI assessments and classes. Clients in need of the kind of intensive treatment experience found in an inpatient or Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) program, with features such as a dual diagnosis component, medication management or even aftercare may find another program more ideal. However, for those looking to address a court infraction or for those looking for a flexible program of weekly therapy, New Insights may provide the right fit.
