Tuscon ArizonaThe Basics

New Hope Behavioral Health Center provides outpatient treatment for opioid addiction using Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) with methadone. New Hope was founded in 1987 by Dr. Rick Campbell and currently has locations in both Tucson and Mesa, Arizona. New Hope’s mission is to help clients find “New Hope to Be Born Again.” It incorporates Christian teachings into therapeutic sessions and promotes its services as the substance abuse treatment provider of choice for faith-based organizations in the area.

Treatment and Staff

After an intake session, clients are given a treatment plan which combines group and individual therapy. The duration of treatment is up to the client, though most stay for one to two years. For the first 90 days, clients are required to attend group therapy three times each week and individual therapy once a month. After this initial period, they may reduce the frequency of sessions if they wish. During this time, clients must also pick up their methadone dose at the clinic each day. After 90 days of successful treatment, they may apply to take doses home.

While many MAT programs have limited group therapy, New Hope endorses the belief that peer support is an essential component of treatment. Group sessions help to establish a sense of belonging and a support network while they face the challenges of personal growth and newly acquired sobriety. New Hope also encourages clients to seek 12-step or other peer support groups—such as Celebrate Recovery—on their own.

The treatment team at New Hope includes psychiatrists, LPNs, LMSWs and addiction counselors with International LSAC credentials. While co-occurring disorders are addressed in therapy, clients are referred to nearby mental health clinics for the specific treatment of mental health disorders.

In Summary

New Hope Behavioral Health Center has been providing MAT for opioid addicts for nearly 30 years. Its extensive group therapy component and encouragement for clients to access both peer and faith-based support help clients to build a network that encourages and supports their health and well-being for lasting recovery.
