The Basics

New Dimensions in Recovery is a 12-step based sober housing program for men and women dealing with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. New Dimensions was established in 2007 by Dane “Lucky” Kreiner to offer the community of Phoenix, Arizona a safe and structured place to go during the initial stages of recovery. New Dimensions is dedicated to helping any and all people who strive to be free of drugs and alcohol.

Accommodations and Amenities

There are three sober living homes through New Dimensions that are dedicated to clients in every stage of their recovery. During the first phase, both men and women reside in the Cypress house, which offers a main house with four bedrooms, and a two bedroom guest house on one property. At this stage, when clients are new in their sobriety, everything is included—food, linens, cleaning supplies and cable and Wifi. When clients are ready to move on, there are gender-specific transitional housing options in similar areas of Phoenix. These homes have dorm style bedrooms and two shared bathrooms. There are also large kitchens, dining rooms, a living room with a TV, and cable and internet are included. The men’s house has a pool table and the women’s offers a BBQ grill in the backyard. Once clients move into this stage food is not provided.

Rules and Regulations

Clients who are in Phase One of the program have a much more structured experience and mainly focus their energy on remaining sober while finding their footing. Phase Two is a little looser—clients can get jobs, attend meetings of their choice and have more social experiences.

During the initial step there are meetings held on-site and regular visits from medical doctors and mental health professionals. In most cases clients opt to attend and outpatient program in the area, and Dimensions works with a number of facilities that provide those services. There are also weekly opportunities to attend church services and Bible study.

There are regular chores that need to be done around the homes and clients are responsible for their personal spaces as well as keeping common areas tidy. Random drug screenings are often performed, as well as property checks. The program maintains that every client needs to be accountable for themselves as well as making sure the environment is conducive to healing. This means being respectful of other residents’ personal space and keeping the noise levels down, especially at night. There are no overnight guests allowed, though after a while in the program clients can request overnight passes.

In Summary

New Dimensions in Recovery offers structured support for those who are truly committed to getting and remaining sober. Men and women willing to make their 12-step program a priority have the potential to thrive in an environment like this, and might benefit from the step-down nature of programming.
