New Beginnings at St. Peter Review
New Beginnings Minnesota, whose motto is, “It’s never too late for a new beginning,” has been providing treatment for the chemically dependent in Minnesota for more than 32 years. New Beginnings at St. Peter, located about an hour away from Minneapolis, offers both day and evening outpatient and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) treatment.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at New Beginnings at St. Peter is individualized, evidence-based and available to the dual diagnosis individuals. It believes that the way to long-term sobriety involves education and relapse prevention.
The program includes group therapy, 12-step education, CBT, employment support and referrals to local schools and universities. It works closely with local businesses that often can provide employment for clients. Families are sometimes welcome to attend groups, but New Beginnings at St. Peter does not offer specific family therapy.
The IOP is about eight weeks long and involves three hours of treatment three times a week. Treatment may be in the morning or in the evening to accommodate varying work schedules. After eight weeks, clients transition into the continuing care part of the program, which lasts about 12 weeks and features two hours of treatment two times a week.
Staff includes LADCs, many of whom have Bachelor’s degrees in social work or psychology.
Extras
New Beginnings Minnesota also operates outpatient rehabs in Elk River, Litchfield, Olivia, Worthington and Minnetonka. Gender-specific residential programs are located in Waverly.
For those who complete either an inpatient our outpatient program, New Beginnings has an alumni program that hosts events about once a month. The events may be a dinner with a guest lecture from a sober alumnus or medical professional, 12-step workshops, softball games, holiday parties and even weekend retreats. The alumni group also publishes a seasonal newsletter, which highlights some of the upcoming events and new research on addiction.
In Summary
New Beginnings at St. Peter’s thorough outpatient treatment, plethora of community resources and professional staff provide a good option for recovery.
