Warren OhioThe Basics

The Neil Kennedy Recovery Centers found its beginnings in 1946 when Jack Deibel and Neil Kennedy combined their pioneering treatment program with a non-profit committee to create a treatment facility for alcoholism and drug addiction. As one of the first substance abuse facilities in the nation, NKRC has a long history of helping clients find their way to recovery. NKRC merged with Gateway Rehab in 1999 and have since been accredited by the Joint Commission and the Ohio State Mental Health and Addiction Services. Gateway Rehab and NKRC offer outpatient treatment, residential treatment and detox throughout Ohio and in Pennsylvania.

Located in a small city near the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, the town was the subject of Bruce Springsteen’s ballad “Youngstown,” reflecting its economic decline during the collapse of steel manufacturing in the late 1970s. Neil Kennedy Recovery Center continued operating throughout the economic crisis of the 70s and provided treatment to many unemployed people who turned to substances when they lost their jobs.

Treatment and Staff

While NKRC offers residential treatment, some clients do not require that level of care. Outpatient programming is available at several facilities and qualified clients are enrolled after a careful assessment that determines their needs. If they need detox prior to enrollment, they are referred to the staff Psychiatrist for Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) with Suboxone. Once stabilized or approved to attend, clients begin the treatment process.

Clinical staff—which includes CADCs, Psychiatrists and Medical Physicians—utilize 12-step methods and practical treatment approaches. Additionally, all clients must also attend AA/NA meetings to support their recovery programs. Medication management is available for those who require dual diagnosis support.

The outpatient program offers day and evening hours to accommodate schedules and services are available Monday through Friday. Attendance frequency is dependent upon each client’s needs and individualized treatment programs ensure all those enrolled have their own unique recovery experience.

Clients attend daily group therapy which helps to develop new coping skills and provide a peer support network for clients. Individual and family therapy are also available, both scheduled independently. Random drug testing may occur.

Extras

NKRC offer additional programs to help their clients get vocational assistance or community support while they are in recovery with job training programs and hiring incentives available to help clients find work in environments that are supportive to their recovery. Recovery Coaching is also available if clients would like extra support in their home environment or support as they attend meetings.

In Summary

NKRC and Gateway Rehab utilize evidence-based practices to provide their clients a new way of life with residential, outpatient and detox services available through a network of facilities in Ohio and Pennsylvania. The outpatient programs are highly individualized and use 12-step principles to identify the bio-psycho-social disease symptoms. Clients attend therapeutic activities, meetings and may receive community support and vocational support if needed.
