The Basics
Located in the east San Fernando Valley in the suburb of Encino, California, the Neighborhood Counseling Center (NCC) is an outpatient treatment facility that specializes in the care of clients ages six and up struggling with a range of addictions including substance use disorders, eating disorders, sexual compulsivity and addiction to gambling, as well as a host of other trauma-inducing issues. Opened in 1982, the facility was founded to meet the needs of individuals that cannot afford the high cost of private practice yet need quality therapeutic services. NCC provides counseling services performed by skilled therapists, with sliding scale fee structure.
Treatment and Staff
NCC offers outpatient treatments for a broad range of issues and utilizes a plethora of therapeutic approaches including Mindfulness-based (MBCT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), humanistic and existential to name a few. The facility is open to anyone that needs help. There are no intake requirements, and clients see a counselor within a few days, if not immediately. Client therapy modalities include individual and group sessions as well as couples and family counseling sessions. Counseling services for individuals with addiction focus on relapse prevention, coping skills and the awareness of co-dependency issues. Twelve-step support groups are also offered. In addition, the facility provides relationship and marriage counseling as well as therapy for individuals in traumatic circumstances like domestic abuse, a midlife crisis, family tragedies leading to grief as well as conditions related to separation and divorce. NCC extends outpatient services to individuals with mental health conditions like depression and PTSD. In addition, clients also have the option to participate in psychoeducational classes that teach coping skills and self esteem building.
The Neighborhood Counseling Center team is comprised of experienced interns in the final stages of their training before entering private practice. The director of the facility is Alan Rudolph, a licensed MFT that specializes in gender and diversity issues. Before joining NCC, Rudolph taught psychotherapy and couples counseling at Antioch University. He is available for therapy upon request for clients paying a reduced fee.
Extras
NCC also offers counseling services for individuals struggling with gender-specific issues, parental dilemmas as well as affirmative psychotherapy for clients with sexual orientation issues like transgender and LGBTQ. Services for Holocaust survivors are also available.
Treatment for gamblers as well as the family, friends and co-workers of gamblers is paid for by the state of California.
In Summary
The Neighborhood Counseling Center is a treatment facility that specializes in affordable treatment for those that cannot afford private practice costs. Fees are on a sliding scale, within a modest range of $25 to $100. The facility provides outpatient counseling services including individual, group, marriage and family sessions for anyone in need of help. While the program specializes in treating addiction disorders, specifically gambling, clients with a broad range of conditions are treated. For clients seeking affordable care through a facility with over 30 years of experience, NCC is a good resource.
