NCADD East San Gabriel and Pomona Valley Inc. Review
Since 1972, NCADD East San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys Inc. has provided outpatient substance abuse services for adults and adolescents residing in the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys. Serving both the communities of Pomona and Covina, California, its mission is to reduce the prevalence of substance abuse by providing prevention education, outreach, referral services and treatment.
With an additional branch in South Bay, The NCADD has a broad network of recovery services in Southern California (in addition to national affiliates) which include residential, outpatient, relapse prevention and detox services for adults and adolescents.
Treatment and Staff
The first step in obtaining treatment is an assessment made by appointment at either facility. While clients with co-occurring disorders are eligible for treatment, substance abuse must be the primary diagnosis.
Upon admittance to the outpatient program, clients participate in both individual and group therapy—both utilizing CBT. Topics include relapse prevention, dealing with depression and anxiety, family dynamics, addiction and health. There are also a number of educational sessions that include social and community issues, psychological and physiological aspects of substance abuse and public policy. Typically clients attend one individual therapy session and two groups per week, but frequency of visits depends on each client’s needs.
All groups are gender specific, and duration of the program varies—but typically clients attend for 16 weeks. In addition, random urinalysis tests are conducted and clients are expected to attend AA/NA meetings.
The adolescent program consists of two groups that meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-6 pm and one individual therapy session. Those under the age of 16 must have parental consent to enroll. Topics and educational sessions are similar to those in the adult group with the addition of peer pressure and bullying sessions. As with the adults, young clients are drug tested and expected to attend outside support groups. The treatment team consists of CADCs and MFTs.
Extras
A relapse prevention program assists clients in planning for their long-term sobriety using DBT groups and education. Clients work through phases of stabilization, assessment, and identifying and managing warning signs of relapse. Participants attend two individual sessions and 12 weekly groups and 12-step meetings.
NCADD also has intervention services to assist families in guiding their loved ones into treatment. As members of the National Intervention Network, NCADD uses certified Interventionists using the Johnson Institute Method of Intervention.
A Drinking Driver treatment program is offered to first-time and multiple offenders who are court or DMV ordered to participate. Additionally, an anger management program (available for teens and adults), a Family Reunification Program (for families torn apart by substance abuse and addiction), a tobacco cessation program and parenting courses are also available.
In Summary
NCADD East San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys provides not only substance abuse services, but prevention and educational programs which may help curb abuse of alcohol and other drugs in the community. A sliding scale and extended office hours make treatment accessible and convenient.
By employing traditional therapy, the 12-steps and offering a broad range of recovery-supportive programs, clients have access to recovery help and hope for long-term sobriety.
