Nancy Clark and Associates has been providing outpatient and residential treatment in Orange County, California, since 1990. Its Recovery Center provides long-term residential treatment in Costa Mesa and its Education Program provides long-term outpatient treatment in Newport Beach.
Clark began her career as a Superior Court Investigator with the Office of the Orange Public Defender. There, she began developing sentencing alternatives for addicts who have committed crimes. Clark is a former President of the National Council on Drug and Alcohol Dependence and continues to serve on its Board of Directors.
Accommodations and Food
The Recovery Center occupies a 19-unit suburban apartment complex. Two to three residents of the same gender occupy each unit which have modern décor, twin-sized beds, desks, dressers and televisions provided. Each unit has its own kitchen and residents are required to arrange their own shopping trips and prepare their own food. Residents also must adhere to a daily chore rotation.
Residents may keep their own computers and phones in their apartment. While there isn’t an exercise room on site, clients may take recreational walks and attend the weekly yoga classes through NCA’s outpatient program. Residents may also keep a car at the complex and/or use the area’s public transportation for shopping, appointments and recreational trips.
Treatment and Staff
Residents stay a minimum of 30 days and up to one year. The average stay is four to five months, and residents participate in a minimum of 21 hours of treatment activities each week. Each client has a customized treatment plan of daily group and individual therapy and clients progress through three levels of treatment.
In level one, which typically lasts for 30 days, clients are closely supervised and are only permitted to leave and return with and escort. In level two, clients may earn off-campus privileges and they begin working with their treatment team to build job skills and search for employment. In level three, clients continue work and school and begin searching for secure housing post-treatment.
The treatment team is comprised of CADCs and LMFTs. The Recovery Center works with two psychiatrists in the area to help treat residents with co-occurring disorders. Therapists use CBT and the 12-step framework and residents are required attend three 12-step meetings each week. Several are hosted at the complex and additional meetings are available nearby. Residents are required to arrange their own transportation to meetings and appointments off-site.
Gender-specific therapy groups are available and The Recovery Center hosts a dual diagnosis group every other Saturday.
Clients can attend a weekly beach excursion, coordinated by The Recovery Center. It also hosts a Sunday potluck dinner that family members and alumni of The Recovery Center are encouraged to attend.
Clark continues to serve as a sentencing consultant for private clients. The Education Program also hosts Clutters Anonymous meetings and offers a Shoplifters Alternative course.
With her long commitment to finding effective alternatives to sentencing for addicts, Nancy Clark has amassed considerable knowledge of which treatment methods provide an effective foundation for lasting recovery. Nancy Clark and Associates’ long-term residential Recovery Center offers clients evidence-based therapy with dual diagnosis support in a comfortable setting a mile from the beach. Its treatment team is committed to helping residents build the life and job skills that will allow them to flourish in independent living in recovery.
