My PlaceThe Basics

My Place Transitional Housing was founded in 2005 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with the purpose of providing sober living for clients dealing with substance abuse and financial difficulties. My Place operates seven co-ed houses and one female-only house on the same block in a residential neighborhood. The houses are within a five-minute walking distance of the library, downtown Fort Lauderdale, a gym, and three bus stops.

Accommodations and Amenities

Residents live in furnished single-family homes. Each house accommodates between four and seven clients who have private rooms or share gender-specific rooms. Houses include bathrooms, fully-equipped kitchens and living rooms with Wi-Fi and cable TV. Each house also has a business center with a computer and printer for clients who are job searching. Residents purchase groceries and prepare their own meals. Each house has a free washer and dryer, bed linens are supplied but residents need to bring their own towels. Houses include outside patios where smoking is allowed.

Rules and Regulations

My Place does not have a curfew, but residents must remain drug and alcohol free. Attending 12-step meetings and finding work is encouraged. Residents are provided with referrals to local AA/NA meetings and local outpatient substance abuse treatment centers, as well as employment agencies in the area. Besides providing a fax machine/scanner, printers and a phone, My Place’s employment centers post jobs on a bulletin board and provide additional vocational information and assistance.

The 30-day cost is between $470 and $510 for a double-occupancy room, and between $650 and $690 for a private room. All utilities are included. My Place offers a $200 discount for residents paying two months in advance.

Extras

My Place picks up newly arrived clients from the airport, free of charge. A seven-day guest pass is provided for the nearby Bally Total Fitness gym for interested clients. My Place is also two and a half miles away from Central Beach.

In Summary

For newly sober clients searching for gender-specific options or more structure, this might not be the right fit. However, some former residents have said nice things about the staff and the location. For those seeking flexible, affordable sober living near the beach, this is a good choice.
