The Basics
Located in Denver, Colorado, Multi-Addictions Processing Agency is an outpatient facility for substance abuse treatment with a flexible schedule and a wide range of classes. Services are available in both English and Spanish and no one is turned away due to an inability to pay.
Treatment and Staff
The treatment options offered at Multi-Addictions Processing Agency are geared toward those who have been convicted of DUIs/DWIs. Both Level II Education and Level II Therapy groups are offered, as is as a weekly parenting group and a weekly non-DUI therapy group. Antabuse medication is also available for an additional fee.
Level II Education is designed for both first-time offenders and for those with multiple DUI offenses. This 24-week program consists of two‑hour classes held once a week for 12 weeks. Topics covered include the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse and the addiction-as-a-disease model. Level II Therapy is designed to empower clients to address their drug and alcohol abuse and the life stressors causing it. Each session is two hours, once a week. Topics of discussion include the 12 steps, anger management, relapse prevention, coping skills and communication. The length of time spent in this portion of the program depends on the individual. In addition to the DUI services, this facility offers a weekly outpatient therapy group that focuses on the same topics. A weekly parenting skills group is also available.
Groups usually tend to fall between 10 to 20 clients at a time. Classes are held in the evenings on Monday through Friday, and in the morning on Saturday.
The facility is run by John Mancha, who has worked in the Denver community since the 1970s. He served as program director at Big Brothers of Metropolitan Denver for 10 years and as a drug counselor at Denver Area Youth Services. In addition, Erica Cordova has been working as the administrative coordinator since 2000. Both Mancha and Cordova are LDACs.
