Moving Forward Assessment Services is located 10 miles north of Minneapolis, in Spring Lake Park, Minnesota. It was founded in 2009 by Timothy E. White, who now serves as chief financial officer, and LADC Kelly A. Summers. Its philosophy is that the 12-step concept of powerlessness over addiction is a fallacy and personal empowerment and self-confidence make abstinence possible. The rehab offers an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) program, as well as a plethora of other recovery services.
Treatment and Staff
Moving Forward Assessment Services offers an evidence-based treatment protocol, focusing on CBT to correct damaging thought processes and negative behaviors. Prior to admission, clients receive a chemical health assessment to determine the appropriate treatment protocol. Dual diagnosis support is offered, if needed.
The 60-hour IOP is gender-specific and consists of group sessions and individual therapy. The women’s program is from noon to 3 pm, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The men’s program meets from noon to 3 pm, or from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm Mondays through Thursdays. Group topics include coping strategies, relapse prevention and behavior modification.
Moving Forward Assessment Services also offers a relapse prevention program for those who have undergone previous treatment and are unable to maintain abstinence. Length of treatment varies from 24 to 48 hours, depending on the client. The program is offered from 5:50 pm to 8:30 pm, Mondays through Fridays.
Moving Forward Assessment Services employs three LADCs (including Summers) and a chemical dependency tech. Co-founder White is the administrator for the rehab’s state-certified DUI education clinic.
DUI education classes are offered from 6 to 8 pm, Mondays through Fridays. There is a family program that meets from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Free transportation to and from the facility is provided for all clients. Also, all clients get 24-hours of aftercare, which is included in the cost. This program meets from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Fridays.
Moving Forward Assessment Services provides clients with a comfortable environment. The upstairs level is used for offices and the lower for clients. There’s a kitchen and a recreation area furnished with a billiards table, dart boards, foosball, board games and a video screening area. A music room features a drum set, two electric guitars and an electric piano. Clients are encouraged to use these rooms during break times to bond with one another.
Moving Forward Assessment Services offers a low-cost alternative to 12-step based treatment in the Minneapolis area. With the on-site amenities for clients, built-in aftercare program and free transportation, this is an excellent choice for those needing outpatient services.
