Mountain Treatment CenterThe Basics

For 30 years, Mountain Treatment Center has provided outpatient substance abuse treatment services to individuals and their families. Its name fully represents its terrestrial landscape. Located in Asheville, North Carolina, Mountain Treatment Center sits in the Blue Ridge Mountain range surrounded by breathtaking, scenic views. The city itself receives yearly accolades and national rankings as a premium destination for outdoor exploration, arts, culture, architecture and retirement. Mountain Treatment Center was founded in 1983 as the first independent substance abuse outpatient treatment facility in the state of North Carolina.

Treatment and Staff

Mountain Treatment Center focuses mainly on group therapy and lifelong education in understanding the severity and effects of substance abuse. After an initial assessment, a CSAC works one on one with the client to discuss the client’s admittance and individualized goals in order for the client to attain and maintain sobriety. If the client is relapse prone, there is a relapse prevention program available.

Led by a Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC), group therapy typically involves six to 15 clients. Sessions are available Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 4:30 to 7:30 pm and Thursday and Saturday mornings from 9 am to 12 pm. The Alcohol & Drug Abuse Education program, also led by a SAC, is comprehensive and composed of lectures, audio-visual material and testimonies from recovering alcoholics. The Life Science Education program prepares clients to effectively manage stress.

The treatment schedule varies but is either short-term (completed within 30 to 90 days of admission) or long-term (completed within 60 to 150 days of admission). MTC also offers individual therapy, a family program and specialized therapy. There is also an Alcohol Drug Education Traffic School (ADETS) available for those with a DWI history and the North Carolina Problem Gambling Program. There is no detox available and the 12-step framework is not incorporated into treatment.

The center boasts a personable and professional staff of SACs comprised of Clinical Director Glenda Laswell (LCSW, LCAS), Laura Boone (CSAC) and Debbi Rios (LPC, NCC)—all committed members of staff at Mountain Treatment Center for nearly a decade. The clinical director is equipped to treat clients with dual diagnosis issues.

Extras

Mountain Treatment Center offers a Parenting Class Tuesday from 4 to 5:30 pm and an Anger Management Group Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 pm. Families can participate in the full treatment program at no cost. Aftercare meets once a week or once a month for three months to a year to ensure clients are doing well.

In Summary

Mountain Treatment Center helps men and women navigate and understand the role substance abuse plays in their lives. With a pleasant and positive atmosphere and location, MTC treats its clients with the utmost respect and provides attentive, effective and professional outpatient care. The variety of education and programs coupled with therapy makes Mountain Treatment Center a premiere option for those seeking holistic treatment.
