Based out of Salem, Virginia, not far west of the city of Roanoke, Mount Regis Center is a CARF-accredited behavioral health organization that offers a wide range of treatment programs for addiction and related dual diagnosis issues. Programs are available to clients with substance abuse issues of all kinds, including alcohol, opiates, meth, prescription drugs and marijuana. In addition to its more intensive residential treatment options, Mount Regis also provides flexible outpatient plans.
Treatment and Staff
After an initial assessment and intake process, Mount Regis offers two main outpatient tracks for qualifying clients, namely its Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and its Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). PHP is a more intensive option that typically serves as a transition for those coming out of inpatient care who are in need of more supervision. These programs run from 8:30 am to 7 pm on average. IOP, on the other hand, is more flexible—clients would typically meet for 24 sessions over the course of five weeks with flexible scheduling available. Those in need of detox can also do so through Mount Regis before continuing to treatment.
In both programs, treatment consists primarily of group therapy with evidence-based treatment practices including CBT and Rational Emotive Therapy. Process-oriented skill groups as well as psychoeducational lectures also round out group therapy, with medication management and dual diagnosis support also available. While some individual therapy may be added in as well on a case-by-case basis, it isn’t emphasized in the curriculum. Throughout the program, clients can also expect to work a 12-step program and to attend meetings as well.
The staff at Mount Regis consists of doctors, RNs, CSACs, LPCs, case managers and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
Mount Regis Center does offer a more intensive residential program as well as step-down aftercare plans as necessary. Though they may not be available to outpatient clients, the facility also provides additional services such as equine therapy, art therapy, a ROPES course and gym memberships for its residential clients. Alumni outreach services are also a major part of the program, with regularly scheduled sober events like bowling and movie trips.
In all, Mount Regis Center provides a straight-forward care program for those struggling with addiction of all kinds. Treatment plans are mostly comprised of group therapy with evidence-based care methods, along with 12-step support and psychoeducational lectures. Medication management and dual diagnosis support are available as well, along with individualized care and flexible scheduling. Although the cost of treatment is likely to vary depending on clients’ insurance and program specifics, Mount Regis Center’s outpatient programs remain a strong option for those in the area.
