The Basics
In the quiet Seattle suburb of Woodinville, Washington, Motivations Recovery Center offers outpatient substance abuse treatment services in a comfortable setting. Founded by certified chemical dependency professional James Fouts in 1990, this boutique rehab is still operated by Fouts and his wife Karen. The services provided by Motivations include substance abuse assessments, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), individual therapy and aftercare.
Treatment and Staff
After a comprehensive assessment, clients at Motivations receive individualized treatment plans. Psychiatric referrals to another facility are provided for those requiring dual diagnosis support. The main offering is the IOP program, which meets for group therapy three times a week for two and a half hours. IOP length is typically between six and 12 weeks.
IOP groups are offered Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 8 pm, and Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 am to 12:30 pm. Clients participate in individual therapy as needed. Those who prefer to attend individual session exclusively can arrange that as well. Groups are kept to a 12-client maximum in a cozy room furnished with armchairs. Fresh coffee is brewed throughout the day.
Motivations utilizes a behavior modification treatment protocol. Group therapy is part lecture, part discussion and is led by the head counselor and founder James Founts. He covers topics such as self-image, the psychological aspects of addiction, personal relationships, family issues and relapse prevention. While Motivations Recovery Center encourages attendance at 12-step meetings, it is not required. Out-of-pocket cost is $120 for an evaluation, $80 for individual therapy and $87.50 per group session.

Aftercare is provided from 8 to 9:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 12:30 to 2 pm on Fridays.
