Morgantown West VirginiaThe Basics

Founded in 2012 by Douglas M. Leech in Morgantown, the largest city in north-central West Virginia, Morgantown Sober Living provides sober living for men in recovery from chemical dependency. Their mission is to help clients learn accountability, while they work on their steps and rebuild their lives.

Accommodations and Amenities

Morgantown Sober Living accommodates 14 men inside a unique looking rosewood red Victorian house with mint green trim. The house has two chimneys, a turret and a front covered porch. The interior has a comfortably furnished living room with a quaint armchair, a hanging chandelier and a fireplace with a cherry wood mantel. The house also features an office, a fully equipped kitchen with dark wood cabinets and a country-style dining room.

Clients are typically paired in spacious rooms, which include twin beds, a fireplace, armchairs, closets and dressers. The residents are responsible for their own groceries, and meal preparation. Amenities include cable TV, laundry room and Wi-Fi. A residential manager lives on the premises.

Rules and Regulations

Potential clients must fill out an application, and undergo an interview to ensure that each man is a good fit for the home. Preferably, new clients have undergone primary care at a drug rehab, but the men are admitted on a case-by-case basis. A six-month minimum length of stay is required.

Since Morgantown Sober Living is rooted in the 12 steps, clients must attend a minimum of five weekly AA/NA meetings, immediately find a sponsor and start to work their steps. Clients must meet with their sponsors at least once per week. They must also have at least one weekly service commitment at a meeting of a 12-step fellowship.

Other requirements include a minimum of 32 weekly hours of working at a job, going to school, or attending an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and/or volunteering in community service. Residents must attend the two weekly house meetings. Random drug and alcohol screenings are conducted. Residents who relapse must leave the premises immediately. The curfew is 10 pm Sundays through Thursdays, and 11 pm Fridays and Saturdays.

Extras

Leech is also the owner of Intervent Consulting which provides drug and alcohol interventions, assessments, family counseling and monitoring services for recovering alcoholics and addicts. Staff includes LADCs, and interventionists.

In Summary

Morgantown Sober Living provides a solid 12-step based approach inside an elegant and warm residence that allows clients a chance to feel the comforts of home, as they start to work on their recovery and rebuild their lives. For clients seeking a high end-style sober living home at a reasonable price, Morgantown Sober Living is the perfect fit.
