The Basics
With locations throughout the country, Monte Nido is known for providing flexible treatment programs to clients struggling with eating disorders and related co-occurring disorders. The company was founded in 1996 in Malibu, California as a residential treatment facility, though it has since expanded to provide both Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) in Los Angeles and Newport Beach, California; Eugene and Portland, Oregon; New York City, New York; Boston, Massachusetts and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Programs are open to both men and women, adults and adolescents.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, clients go through an intake and assessment process and work with staff members to develop comprehensive and individualized treatment programs. While detox services are not offered on-site, the Monte Nido staff can help participants find nearby programs before attending treatment.
While the treatment approach of both tracks are similar, PHP is typically reserved for more severe cases and meets for seven days a week for six to eight hours per day. IOP, on the other hand, generally meets for three to five days for three to four hours at a time. In either case, clients attend group and individual therapy with an emphasis on evidence-based practices including CBT, DBT and Psychodynamic and Interpersonal Therapy. Groups also include a number of other methods including art therapy, music therapy and psychodrama. Topics covered include mindfulness, nutrition, body image, dual diagnosis issues, yoga, relapse prevention and feminist-related issues. Medication management is provided as well. Though the program is not 12-step based, AA/NA and SMART Recovery are both supported.
Monte Nido’s staff consists of LMFTs, RNs, Certified Eating Disorder Specialists (CEDS), psychiatrists, LCSWs and additional Master’s and PhD-level clinicians.
Extras
Programming can also include off-site excursions to local attractions, jewelry making classes, equine therapy, dance classes and naturopathic medicine.
Family therapy including multi-family groups is also worked into the program as necessary. Once clients finish primary care, they can work with staff members on aftercare plans as well which may include attending stepped down therapy groups and related events.
