Monadnock Family Services is a non-profit, community mental health agency that serves on average 800 children per year and 1,900 adults. Located in Keene, New Hampshire, MFS provides a range of services to the communities of Cheshire and Hillsborough Counties. MFS offers an outpatient substance abuse program for both adults and adolescents using evidence-based methods and encourages clients to seek peer support such as the 12-step framework.
Treatment and Staff
The substance abuse services offered by MFS are intended for those in early recovery. Treatment is highly individualized and requires clients to take an active role in their recovery. After an initial evaluation and assessment, clients are either referred to outside services for more intensive treatment or are enrolled in basic outpatient treatment at MFS.
Treatment utilizes DBT via individual counseling which requires clients to work closely with their counselor to develop a relapse prevention plan for their recovery. Sessions may take place as often as the client desires each week. Additionally, counselors assist clients in finding additional resources of support, such as AA/NA and Alanon throughout their recovery.
MFS also offers specialized group therapy with topics including a readiness group for those who are considering entering a residential treatment program and a co-occurring disorders group. Both groups are scheduled at various times throughout the week and may be subject to change. Each client’s case is managed throughout treatment to monitor their progress and to determine if a more intensive track is required. The length of the program varies between cases and on each individual’s progress in treatment.
MFS also offers treatment for a variety of other behavioral health problems and other issues. Other services include: acute care services, a personal fitness program for those with severe mental illness, mental health counseling, a transitional living facility for those with mental health issues, a senior care center and a wellness program
The substance abuse treatment services offered by MFS are highly individualized and incorporate traditional one-on-one sessions and group therapy. Clients with co-occurring mental health and addiction issues have access to a specialized group as well as a staff psychiatrist for support with medication. This basic outpatient facility also provides a range of mental health services to support the community.
