The Basics
Mission of Hope’s Hayat House is a Sydney, Australia based outpatient treatment facility. It caters to Muslims who are dealing with an addiction. Hayat House uses culturally sensitive approaches within a community based program. Treatment offers group and individual therapy, and the Millati Islami 12-step fellowship program. Hayat House is open to any member of the Muslim faith and their families. It’s proud to be the first treatment program of its kind in Australia.
Treatment and Staff
Hayat House appropriates certain hours for assessments during the week. Individuals can come in and discuss their need for treatment. Typically clients receive two hour-long individual sessions per week. Additionally, there is one group therapy session per week that runs for approximately two hours. These sessions focus on self care and the psychological effects of addiction.
The program at Hayat House uses a harm reduction model along with the maqasid al-shariah, which displays the necessary steps that one has to take in order to live a healthy, harmonious life. These principles are from the Quran, and aim to help each person not cloud their judgement or every day awareness of Allah. The five basic areas of focus in this program are protection of life, religion, procreation, intellect and wealth or resources. The intended result of this program is complete abstinence from drugs and alcohol by following this path.
In addition to this main program, there is also an outreach track that focuses on any youth within the community going down a potentially negative or dangerous path. This community based program is for young people who are between the ages of nine and 22, and provides educational assistance and activities.
Hanan Dover is the founder of Mission of Hope and Hayat House in Sydney. Dover opened the facility as a response to witnessing the developmental and health needs within the community. Working along Dover are trained and licensed counselors and psychologists.

Mission of Hope and Hayat House use treatment programs that abide by the Islamic faith while foster in a safe and welcoming establishment for anyone in the community that identifies as Muslim. The program leads clients to a place of abstinence and offers healthy living guidelines. This entire program’s objective is to help others get healthy physically and mentally so they can serve others.
