Mission Lodge Review
Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mission Lodge is a co-ed transitional living and residential treatment program for addiction and co-occurring disorders. Since 1984, it has been a subsidiary of Missions, Inc., a behavioral health organization that also provides detox, outpatient treatment and other sober living programs throughout the state.
Accommodations and Amenities
Designed to encourage community living, the 89-bed residence can accommodate up to 17 women and 72 men. Rooms are dorm-style and shared with at least one other roommate, though residents are often housed with three to four other clients. However, single occupancy units may be obtained if necessary. Residents are given memberships to the YMCA, and they are encouraged to work out five days a week. Three meals a day are provided and prepared by the food service staff and consist of typical American-fare.
Rules and Regulations
After an initial intake and assessment, clients work with staff members to develop an individualized treatment plan based around individual and group therapy that is rooted in evidence-based practices and 12-step principles. Residents are expected to maintain their their sobriety, submit to regular and random drug tests and obey the house behavioral contract that prohibits fighting, stealing and other anti-social behaviors. Attendance of regular off-site 12-step meetings is also required.
Clients who are further along in their recovery are also expected to stay busy—seeking employment, working, volunteering or pursuing further education. There is also a craft shop on-site and other in-house work programs for clients to participate in—including structured sober activities six days a week.
Extras
As a part of the Missions, Inc. network, clients have access to detox, outpatient and other residential programs if necessary. Other Missions, Inc. services include “Home Free,” a 24/7 domestic violence hotline that provides support and emergency services.
In Summary
Overall, Mission Lodge offers a unique combination of residential treatment combined with more independent transitional living. Along with its parent company, Mission Lodge can help clients get into detox, guide them through treatment and offer them support as they rebuild their lives within the safe and structured enviornment of sober living. Offering evidence-based treatment, integration into the local 12-step community, sober recreational activities and personal development and accountability, Mission Lodge is truly a comprehensive program designed to give their clients the tools for long-term recovery.
