The Basics

Situated in the Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley, Mission Community Hospital provides an acute medical detox as well as Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP) for clients struggling with substance use disorders and a range of chronic mental illnesses including major depression, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Mission Hospital’s “Reclaim Your Life” medical detox coupled with the “Turning Point” IOP serves nearly 3,500 individuals every year. The facility provides individualized treatment programming that integrates medication management, individual and group therapy, family therapy, focus groups and the 12-step recovery model.

Treatment and Staff

The goal of the Reclaim program is to provide clients with the safest and most comfortable medical detox utilizing comprehensive and innovative techniques. Mission provides detox treatment for a range of substances including pain medication, alcohol, methamphetamine, marijuana, cocaine, various sedatives including xanax and valium as well as opiates like heroin and methadone. Clients entering the Mission detox are monitored around the clock by a multidisciplinary medical team led by an addictionologist and includes counselors, social workers and a nursing team. The medical staff is accredited in the use of buprenorphine for opiate addiction and follow PROMETA protocols for those addicted to alcohol, cocaine and methamphetamine. While the length of the process typically lasts between three and four days, it varies depending on the specific needs of the individual. Clients remain in detox until all withdrawal symptoms are alleviated, and upon completion are referred to Mission’s IOP program.

Mission’s Turning Point IOP provides a treatment approach for clients either continuing treatment after detox or for those that do not require around-the-clock medical care but still need structured care. Clients undergo an extensive psychological and medical assessment that helps the staff design the most effective individualized action plan to meet their specific needs. From there, Turning Point offers an integrative treatment plan that includes an array of therapeutic methods including medication management, individual and group therapy, family therapy, psychoeducation, holistic methods for relaxation and stress management as well as 12-step recovery and aftercare. In addition, clients engage in specialized group therapy for those with dual diagnosis, gender-specific issues and grief and loss.

The Mission Hospital team is equipped with an expansive staff that includes counselors, licensed social workers, addictionologist, physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists and nutritionists. For clients with co-occurring disorders, dual diagnosis support is available through medication management.

Extras

Clients work hand in hand with a case manager to construct a continued support plan following discharge. Mission has established relationships with many community 12-step support groups.
