Miracle Hill Renewal Center is a branch of Miracle Hill Ministries, a non-profit organization that was founded in 1937 with the mission to provide social and wellness services to the surrounding communities. Located in Greenville, South Carolina, the Renewal Center’s substance abuse treatment program has two separate gender-specific residential programs; the Renewal Program for women and the Overcomers Program for men. Treatment employs a faith-based approach but also includes evidence-based methods and traditional therapy. Medication management is available for those with approved prescriptions.
Food and Accommodations
Clients are accommodated in a facility with 16 beds. Residents are quartered in double-occupancy rooms with one roommate. There are large shared bathrooms, a living room with a cable TV, a dining room and a fully equipped kitchen. Meals are prepared by staff and served three times daily and are typical American-fare, including a vegetable, a starch and a protein of some kind.
Treatment and Staff
Both recovery tracks follow the same program and are six-months in duration. Treatment implements a Christian adaptation of the 12 steps and is divided into four levels, each typically lasting six weeks. The first level—Spiritual Foundations—has clients establishing an individualized treatment plan with their counselor and attending Renewal classes and activities. During the second level, or Inner Healing, clients identify their personal destructive habits and strategize methods of changing them through therapy. The next level, known as Planning a Healthy Lifestyle and Relationships, encourages clients to develop healthy boundaries, make amends and begin the process of restitution. Lastly, Level 4 or Prevention and Planning, focuses on job preparation, aftercare planning and relapse prevention.
Throughout the recovery process, clients attend CBT based individual and group therapy as well as family therapy to reach their recovery goals. In support of spiritual recovery, clients also attend mandatory chapel services.
With a particular focus on spiritual recovery, clients are given a variety of “spiritual growth opportunities.” These recovery tools include daily reading of the bible, time spent in prayer, sharing recovery with others, keeping a daily journal and reading approved Christian literature. Additionally there are adult education courses, an on-site library and computer lab and a DVD/CD lab where residents can watch or listen to approved programming and music.
Days are structured and combine educational, spiritual and therapeutic activities. A typical day begins with prayer at 5:30 am followed by breakfast from 6:05 to 6:30. Residents then perform chores, attend chapel services and have personal devotional time until 7:50 am. Classes follow and last until lunch at noon. Classes resume until 4:45 pm when there is a break until 6 pm, followed by dinner. In the evening, clients attend more devotional services and have free time until lights-out at 10 pm. Saturdays and Sundays are more relaxed, with time spent primarily in prayer and spiritual services.
In addition to the Renewal Center, Miracle Hill also offers a variety of programs and services to support the community. A gender-specific treatment program for men, foster homes and shelters for children, family support and various rescue missions and residences for adults are all available for those in need.
For men and women seeking a faith-based treatment program in South Carolina, the Miracle Hill Renewal Center is a comprehensive option. With a multi-stage recovery program, each focusing on a new goal for both sobriety and faith, clients progress naturally with fellowship and guidance. The credentialed staff employ evidence based therapeutic methods and clients are supported by strict daily structure creating a solid foundation for lasting recovery.
