Miller HouseThe Basics

Located in the quiet, upscale neighborhood of north Scottsdale, The Miller House is a sober living home for women that is part of the Sober Living of AZ (SLAZ) organization. One of three homes—the others are The Pima House and The Turquoise House—The Miller House first opened in 2008. With locations in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Mesa, all SLAZ houses are walking distance to 12-step meetings and fellowship halls. Residents receive the support and tools needed to transition back into society while becoming part of a sober community.

Accommodations and Amenities

The Miller House offers two queen beds in each room for a total of six bedrooms, not counting the manager’s. Private rooms are available for an extra $600 per month. There is a maximum capacity of 10 clients at a time. The house also boasts a pool, computers and Wi-Fi, a hot tub, two washers and dryers and flat screen TVs with cable.

All food at The Miller House is provided. Clients enjoy family style lunches and dinners which they all take turns in cooking together. Each client is in charge of preparing their own breakfast, with choices like cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit and toast available.

Rules and Regulations

Clients are given random breathalyzers and drug tests a minimum of once a week, possibly even daily. Clients that stay at The Miller House are responsible for daily chores, abiding by house rules and participating in house meetings and maintaining their personal treatment schedule. A 12-step modality is utilized and on-site detox services are also available for an additional charge, if necessary.

The Miller House residents are required to attend daily 12-step meetings and to take part in morning and evening meditation groups. They also have the option to participate in the combined sober living and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at the nearby SLAZ treatment facility. IOP clients attend three group therapy sessions per week. Depending on their assessment they also have one to two individual counseling sessions a week. Recognizing that women often come into recovery with unique issues stemming from abuse, trauma-informed therapy techniques like EMDR are available.

There is a staff physician and psychiatrist at the SLAZ treatment facility for those who require medication-assisted treatment, medication management and dual diagnosis support. There are relapse prevention workshops provided as well as daily on-site AA/NA meetings. The The Miller House staff consists of CDACs and MFTs and the house is supervised 24/7.

Extras

The residents of The Miller House take daily trips to the nearby gym and participate in weekly recovery-based yoga classes and equine therapy. Clients are assigned a life coach with whom they work on things such as resumes and setting educational goals. The Miller House also provided weekly speaker meetings which are followed by a house BBQ.

In Summary

The Miller House stands apart from the other Sober Living of AZ houses because it is the only one designed specifically to address the needs of female clients. Those who are seeking a structured outpatient program and comfortable supportive living environment will appreciate SLAZ’s affordable, all-in-one approach to substance abuse treatment and sober living.
