For over 40 years, Mid-South Health Systems, Inc. has provided comprehensive outpatient services for adults and adolescents struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. With 12 locations throughout northeastern Arkansas, Mid-South offers a sliding scale payment option, ensuring that no one gets turned away from help due to lack of funds.
Treatment and Staff
Clients interested in obtaining services must first schedule an assessment facilitated by a licensed psychologist. Clients should be prepared to spend at least two hours at the clinic at the evaluation. Once assessed, eligible clients are assigned a primary therapist. In addition to a therapist, individuals with co-occurring disorders will see a psychiatrist for medication management.
Clients enrolled in the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) attend nine hours per week of counseling; one hour for individual therapy and the remaining time in group therapy three evenings per week. Counselors use CBT to discuss topics including identifying triggers, relapse prevention, coping skills, co-occurring disorders, and building support systems. Gender-specific groups are available.
Typical duration for IOP is six- to eight-weeks, but that can change depending on the individual. Groups are limited to eight people and clients are required to attend outside support groups such as AA/NA, Smart Recovery or Celebrate Recovery.
Basic outpatient clients meet once per week for a group session and every two weeks for individual therapy. Group topics are similar to the IOP but with less frequency. As with the IOP, while duration of the program is roughly six weeks, the time commitment is adjusted to meet individual needs. Both IOP and outpatient clients are drug tested weekly. As with the IOP, clients are required to attend outside support groups.
The adolescent outpatient program consists of individual therapy once a week along with a weekly group session. Topics include peer pressure, identifying triggers, Motivational Interviewing (MI), family dynamics and cultivating healthy recreational activities. While family sessions are not mandatory, participation is strongly recommended. Clients who are 15 and under must have parental consent prior to treatment.
Mid-South offers vocational training and job placement through its Day Rehab Program. It is also the home of the Children’s Advocacy of Eastern Arkansas, has a pharmacy and services for victims of domestic violence. It also provides a series of continuing education workshops for those in the mental health professions.
Mid-South Health Systems, Inc. provides thorough outpatient care to both adolescents and adults. With 12 locations, evening hours and sliding scale payment options clients are ensured to easily attend treatment alongside their personal and professional obligations.
