The Basics

Set along the beautiful Columbia River Gorge, Mid-Columbia Center for Living is a substance abuse and behavioral health organization for Hood River, Sherman and Wasco counties. Its Oregon facilities are funded by the state, local government and grants, allowing access to quality care based on sliding scale fees. Outpatient services are available for both substance abuse and gambling addiction; treatment is for both adults and adolescents. Through a mixture of traditional therapy, medication management and aftercare, the goal of sustainable sobriety can be reached.

Treatment and Staff

Mid-Columbia Center for Living offers assessments, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), group and individual therapy, drug court services, DUI services and aftercare. On-site detox is not available, although referrals to an outside facility can be made.

The IOP program meets three times a week, for three hours at a time. During this time, clients take part in one individual therapy session per week, in addition to structured group therapy. Group sizes are usually between 10 and 15, and group topics include nutrition, relapse prevention, substance abuse education, family dynamics, emotional health, meditation, trauma and coping skills. While this program is not 12-step based, local meeting recommendations can be made.

Once IOP has been completed, clients can step down into outpatient. This program runs for eight to 16 weeks, meeting once a week for three hours. The schedule is similar to that of IOP, only less intense and there is a greater focus on relapse prevention, helping clients to manage stress as issues pop up in their everyday lives. The behavioral health component helps individuals with stress, family, grief, parenting, relationships, careers, domestic violence and mental health issues. Clients are able to see a psychiatrist if medication management is needed.

The staff includes psychiatrists, licensed therapists and CADCs.

Extras

Following the completion of an outpatient program, clients can attend aftercare. This service includes a weekly group session that monitors the client’s progress and struggles. The length of time in treatment depends on the individual.

This facility has a DUI education program for those who are court-ordered.

In Summary

Mid-Columbia Center for Living offers a wide range of services for both adults and adolescents. With state-funded treatment available, the program acts as a source of solid support for all those who need it. Thanks to the behavioral health component, dual diagnosis and medication management is available.
