The Basics
California’s Mid Coast Recovery Center is a San Diego-based outpatient drug and alcohol treatment program. Operating under the umbrella of Mental Health Systems, a large, community-oriented behavioral health organization founded in 1978, Mid Coast Recovery provides flexible treatment options that emphasize personal responsibility, life skills and education to court-ordered and self-referred clients.
Treatment and Staff
All clients above the age of 18 are eligible for treatment. After an initial assessment, clients begin outpatient treatment that varies in intensity; however all plans work within the structure of group and individual therapy, on-site 12-step meetings, educational workshops and parenting classes. Treatment is designed to be sensitive to cultural and gender-specific issues and additional support for clients with co-occurring disorders is also available. All therapy is evidence-based using CBT and REBT.
Staff consists of AOD counselors, CADCs and other Master’s-level therapists.
Extras
Mid Coast Recovery offers therapy and AIDS education to the community on a standalone basis.
With close ties to the local justice system, clients are referred to Mid Coast Recovery from probation, parole, dependency court or CalWORKS. Clients can also be accepted as a result of PC1000 or Proposition 36.

Mid Coast Recovery Center is one of many addiction treatment programs operated by Mental Health Systems, all of which offer a nice mixture of evidence-based therapies, 12-step involvement and additional support for those with a dual diagnosis. Working in conjunction with the court system, programs are geared to not only physically rehabilitate clients from addiction but also help them gain the necessary skills and confidence to rebuild their lives.
