MFI Recovery Center: Mt. Rubidoux Review
MFI Recovery Center’s men’s only residential program known as Mt. Rubidoux is located in the Southern California city of Riverside. Treatment at this facility is entirely evidence-based and designed for adult men who are struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. Programming is highly structured and supportive, offering a variety of group sessions, recreation, education and 12-step support. MFI Recovery Center has been providing comprehensive addiction treatment since 1972.
Accommodations and Food
Clients reside in apartments in a quiet residential neighborhood in Riverside that offers a view of the facility’s namesake, Mt. Rubidoux. These are one or two bedroom units that accommodate two to four clients in shared bedrooms. The spacious and comfortable residences are fully furnished and include a living room with couches, coffee table and TV, a stocked kitchen and bathroom. The building offers a total of 20 beds.
Breakfast and lunch are prepared by the clients in their own apartments with the groceries that are provided. Additionally, there is a staff cook that makes dinner for the clients four times a week.
Treatment and Staff
Clients who are in need of detox are able to be accommodated prior to entering into the residential program. Treatment is provided in separate living facilities and, depending on the substance they’re detoxing from, can last between three and seven days. Clients are monitored 24 hours a day by a medical team who provides the latest in cutting edge therapies and medications to ensure a comfortable and safe detox experience.
Treatment tracks last between 30 and 90 days depending on the clients needs. With the exception of the weekends, clients wake up around 7 am and begin their day with medications if needed and from there launch into a well regulated and balanced day of treatment. There are at least three group sessions per day, which includes process and meditation groups, anger management, matrix groups and psychoeducation. There are also regular individual sessions scheduled during the week. Treatment takes place both on site and at MFI’s own primary care facility, which is also where all medical issues are addressed.
Programming uses the science based approach of The Matrix Model, behavior modification methods, CBT and on-site AA and NA meetings. Clients also work on coping and life skills, parenting skills, and receive ample relapse prevention techniques.
The staff at Mt. Rubidoux is comprised of Master’s-level therapists, LCSWs, addiction specialists, physicians and nurses.
Extras
There are weekly fun sober things every Friday evening where clients attend a movie, go bowling or BBQ at their residence. Additionally, clients are provided with a gym membership for the duration of their treatment.
There are family and couples therapy options along with aftercare planning throughout the program, which can also include a sober living.
