Metro Hope Review

Founded in 1926, Metro Hope is a multi-faceted behavioral health facility based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota providing flexible treatment programs for men and women struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. Although all residents are welcome to attend, the facility specializes in helping mothers with children and others struggling with unemployment and homelessness.

Accommodations and Food

All told, The Metro Hope facilities can accommodate 53 men, 20 women and 24 children in gender-separate housing. In either case, residents can expect to stay in basic, shared bedrooms with twin beds, dressers, nightstands and natural lighting. In the women’s program, the children are housed with their mothers. Beyond the bedrooms, each also comes with common areas with cable TV, therapy rooms, on-site chapels, book rooms, exercise equipment and walking areas. The men’s house also has a pool table. Throughout their stay, all clients are served three meals a day plus snacks.

Treatment and Staff

Before beginning a program, all participants go through an intake and assessment process to determine their treatment history and needs. While on-site detox services are not available, those in need can be referred to nearby programs as necessary. Generally speaking, the men’s program typically lasts for five to seven months while the women’s program lasts for seven to 12.

Participants attend a program that is a blend between traditional residential treatment and sober living. As such, residents can expect to attend individual and group therapy with evidence-based treatment practices like CBT and DBT along with regular 12-step meetings. As a Christian-oriented recovery facility, all clients are expected to attend church and incorporate Biblical principles into their recovery process as well. In addition to therapy, participants are also expected to find jobs and work part-time, eventually transitioning to full-time employment. Residents can also volunteer or attend more school as well. Groups cover a range of topics including parenting skills, emotional processing, trauma-informed topics, gender-specific topics and other rotating issues. While basic support for issues like depression and anxiety may be available, extensive dual diagnosis support is not.

The staff at Metro Hope consists of case managers, supervising nurses, LCSWs and additional Master’s-level counselors.

Extras

The facility also offers daycare services as part of the women’s program; family therapy is also provided.

In addition to the above, the staff can also help anyone who completes a primary care plan develop stepped down aftercare and discharge plans as necessary.

In Summary

In all, Metro Hope provides a comprehensive, Christian-oriented recovery programs for those seeking a longer-term recovery plan. Specific treatment services are available for men and women, with special support for expecting mothers and children. Participants can expect to attend 12-step meetings and evidence-based therapy while working and becoming involved in the local community. While the religious-oriented care and the longer-term treatment may not be an ideal fit for everyone, Metro Hope remains a good resource for those in the area.
