Merito Treatment Center Review
Merito Treatment Center is located in Redlands, near San Bernardino, in Southern California. Merito provides detox and residential treatment for men that includes treatment for co-occurring disorders and support using the 12-step framework.
Merito was founded by Glenn Swanson, CADC-II and MBA, who also owns His House Sober Living and the New Creation Addiction Treatment Center for Women. Merito has been in operation for four years, though Swanson has operated facilities in the area since 1994.
Accommodations and Food
Merito is located in a quiet craftsman home with views of the San Bernardino mountains. The comfortable residence features ample high-ceiling common areas for games, TV and working on recovery assignments. The home has 10 beds and clients usually have one roommate.
Merito employes a kitchen staff to make all meals, which are planned with clients nutritional needs and preferences in mind. The residence also has pleasant outdoor space for relaxing and socializing.
Treatment and Staff
Detox is usually seven to 10 days. Once clients are stabilized, they begin their customized residential treatment program which lasts 30, 60 or 90 days. Clients have multiple treatment groups each day, which use CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help them manage triggers and learn how to regulate their emotions. Clients also have individual therapy at least once a week. Clients in need of Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid addiction are provided with Suboxone, which they taper off of in the course of residential treatment.
Merito promotes experiential therapy to help clients build self-esteem and includes at least one outdoor therapeutic experience in each week’s curriculum. Residents are also required to attend daily 12-step meetings to which the house staff transports them each evening.
The treatment team at Merito includes CADCs, Master’s-level therapists and consulting psychiatrists who provide dual diagnosis support and medication management. Behavioral health technicians and recovery support staff are on-site 24/7 for peer coaching and supervision.
Extras
Residents are transported to a nearby gym four times a week for recreation and exercise. The staff organize social outings each week, such as bowling trips and movie nights. Family education groups are held periodically and family therapy is available as-needed.
For aftercare, residential clients can enroll in Merito’s outpatient program, which offers standard and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) treatment plans. Merito’s parent company also operates sober living facilities in the area and is affiliated with nearby New Creation College, which offers substance abuse counseling and vocational training programs.
