The Basics
Merito Treatment Center is located in Redlands, near San Bernardino, in southern California. Merito provides gender-specific outpatient, detox and residential treatment for men. Its outpatient program offers treatment at the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and standard outpatient levels of care. Treatment plans include dual-diagnosis support and guidance in using the 12-step framework.
Merito was founded by Glenn Swanson, CADC-II and MBA, who also owns His House Sober Living and the New Creation Addiction Treatment Center for Women. Merito has been in operation for four years, though Swanson has operated facilities in the area since 1994.
Treatment and Staff
Merito’s outpatient programs are available to its residential program alumni and men in the area who have completed other residential programs or who are entering treatment at the outpatient level of care. Most enter treatment at the IOP level and may step-down to standard outpatient treatment as they progress.
After an assessment, clients receive a treatment that includes group therapy three to five times a week and individual therapy at least once a week. As they progress, clients may step-down to group therapy once or twice a week. Most treatment plans last 10 to 12 weeks. Treatment uses CBT and Motivational Interviewing to help clients regulate their emotions and develop coping skills. Merito also plans outdoor experiential therapy activities and encourages all clients to attend 12-step meetings each week.
The treatment team at Merito includes CADCs, Master’s-level therapists and consulting psychiatrists who provide dual-diagnosis support and medication management.
Extras
Merito encourages families to take part in their loved one’s recovery. Family therapy is available, as are multi-family groups for recovery education and support.
For aftercare, clients work with their therapist to create a plan that may include on-going individual therapy, peer support meetings and educational and professional goals. Merito’s parent company also operates sober living facilities in the area and is affiliated with nearby New Creation College, which offers substance abuse counseling and vocational training programs.
