Mercy Hospital Behavioral Health ServicesThe Basics

Mercy Hospital Behavioral Health Services offers mental health and substance abuse treatment programs at Mercy Hospital, a facility offering top-notch healthcare services since 1852. Located in Chicago, Illinois, clients have access to big city resources to aid them during their recovery process. Mercy Hospital offers an Intensive Outpatient (IOP) substance abuse treatment program as well as a specific outpatient track for those with a dual diagnosis.

Treatment and Staff

Mercy Hospital’s IOP is a flexible program allowing clients to maintain a regular family, work and school schedule as needed. Participants attend group therapy three to five times per week, depending on their unique recovery needs. Educational sessions and individual therapy are also scheduled several times a week and in addition to therapy, clients are expected to attend community 12-step meetings at least once a week.

The dual diagnosis component is a day treatment program based out of the hospital’s behavioral health facility. The program facilitates an individualized treatment plan determined by the initial assessment which is adjusted as needed as clients progress in treatment. The program consists of daily group sessions and educational sessions. Daily attendance at outside AA/NA meetings is also encouraged. Mercy Hospital also provides psychiatric care, medication management, individual therapy, relapse prevention and abstinence support.

The IOP typically lasts anywhere from three to nine months, but there are no restrictions and clients can attend treatment for as long as they wish. The co-occurring disorders program lasts as long as is necessary for each client. The staff at Mercy Hospital consists of medical doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, LMHCs, LSWs, LPCs, RNs and LCDCs.

In Summary

The substance abuse treatment programs at Mercy Hospital Behavioral Health Services offer structured treatment, individualized plans and a solid mix of 12-step and evidence-based therapies to secure a solid foundation of recovery. Additionally, men and women struggling with co-occurring disorders will find myriad resources if they decide to seek help at this facility.
