With several locations throughout southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois, Mercy Health System is dedicated to bringing integrated health care services to its local communities. Mercy’s facility in Janesville, Wisconsin is the only one that treats substance abuse. From detox to a variety of outpatient programs, Mercy provides clients with a path to sobriety.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment at Mercy Health System includes a range of outpatient services like adult day treatment and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Dual diagnosis support is available. Before enrolling, each client must undergo an initial phone assessment, which is free of charge and is used to determine what level of care is needed. For those in need of medically monitored detox, the process generally lasts between two to three days and occurs at the Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville.

Adult day treatment meets Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 2:30 pm and includes a mixture of group and individual therapy as well as educational lectures. IOP meets three times a week for three hours at a time. The last level of outpatient care meets once a week for three hours and also includes both group and individual therapy.

Topics discussed in the outpatient programs include relapse prevention, coping skills, family communication and anger management. Evidence-based therapies such as CBT and DBT are used frequently, but 12-step philosophy is not a component. Groups never exceed 10 clients.

One-on-one counseling for addiction is also available at all three locations. Individual therapy must also begin with an initial in-person assessment.

The staff includes board certified psychiatrists, licensed psychologists, LSWs, Master’s level-therapists and nurse practitioners.

In Summary

Mercy Health System clients have access to highly trained professionals who provided both medical and therapeutic support. Using evidence-based practices, a new way of life becomes possible for those suffering from substance abuse.

Mercy Health system care is awesome. The billing… not so much. The left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing. Every time we receive a bill there is a different account number. I am thinking about seeking care elsewhere. If you ever wonder why your bills get sent to collection wonder now more. I paid a bill and it was applies to one of the other 8 account numbers that we have at Mercy. This is just how stupid it is. Screw that. Set up 1 bill for my family or there will be no more payments. How dumb is this?

  2. I would give ‘no stars’. I would not recommend this system unless you would like to be defrauded. Long story short I gave this system a second chance after they billed me for services I was told by them and the insurance company were covered.
The ‘second chance’ I made an appointment and told the receptionist I was coming in for preventative care only. I ended up being billed again for the services and told they could not change it as it would be defrauding the insurance company. After talking to them and the insurance company I filed a formal complaint with the insurance commissioners office and was told it was a common problem in which a contract loophole is being exploited. I assume Mercy does this to make more money and avoid paying the contracted rates.
