The Basics

The Mental Health Cooperative (MHC), is a mental health facility with several locations throughout Tennessee, and headquarters in Nashville. MHC offers intensive care management services, psychiatric help and counseling for adults, adolescents and children. Treatment options include emergency psychiatric services for stabilization, substance abuse counseling, individual and group therapy and co-occurring programming. MHC aims to offers easy to access care through its mobile and walk-in clinics.

Treatment and Staff

Every person seeking treatment through MHC is treated with the specific intent to reduce symptoms within a cooperative environment that includes the individual and his or her family. The child and adolescent tracks include several options for treatment. Often times MHC therapists are able to come to the child’s school or arrange transportation so not to disrupt the daily schedule too much. Depending on how severe the case is there are medication management options along with regular psychiatric visits, and counseling that focuses on anger management, communication, and guidance for those exhibiting signs of ADHD through a variety of relaxation exercises.

The young adult tracks, which are geared towards clients ages 15 to 30 living in Davidson County who are going through their first episode of psychosis, offer specialized services that may include a short term hospitalization.

Adult programming includes a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians including RNs, case managers and psychiatric practitioners, who are assigned to each client in order to provide the most comprehensive treatment options. Medication management is available. Rlapse prevention classes, coping skills trainings and psychoeducation are also integrated.

Both the adult and adolescent tracks are available in either the mobile units or one of the standing offices. For clients in crisis, MHC can refer to a longer term inpatient program, or a short-term stabilization in a hospital setting.

Staff includes LPCs, medical directors, LCSWs, psychiatrists, MAMFTs and LMSWs.

Extras

The case managers through MHC can offer a variety of services including housing placement assistance, educational services and vocational trainings, budgeting and financial help, medical and dental care, and transportation.

In Summary

One of the unique aspects of the programming through the Mental Health Cooperative is how inclusive it is with the clientele. Every move is agreed upon with not only the treatment team, but also the client and, if applicable, their families. Additionally, MHC makes it easier for clients to receive treatment as it offers several mobile unit options and locations throughout Tennessee, along with transportation and therapists who are able to accommodate schedules and locations. MHC really does its best to reach out to those who need help within its surrounding communities.
